Being a guest on a TV show

Photo of the TV while watching myself on it…how could I not do that?

Friday was an exciting day, I was invited to be a guest on studio 512, a lifestyle show here in Austin on KXAN (NBC) hosted by Amanda Tatom. It was for an episode of favorite things, and my jewelry was Amanda’s favorite things, so I thought the best thing to do was to debut the FW14 Collection right there on TV, it was so much fun! I’ll admit that one of the highlights was that John Lewis, who’s barbecue I recently gushed about was also on the show. This meant that I not only ate La Barbecue after filming, but was taking celeb crush selfies with him in the green room before we started taping.

Waiting off camera and watching John dish barbecue secrets with Amanda.

The show is taped live to tape, which meant that I would be able to watch the show when it aired not long after we wrapped up. I was in the last segment and was off to lunch with my friend Michele. I made it to her house just in time to see the show which included a once in a lifetime moment when her husband walked in and saw me on the tv, while sitting on the couch in the same thing I was wearing while on tv and had a look of complete confusion for a few moments, it was great…but maybe you had to be there.

During the show, taken off set.

Two things should be noted here. One, that I finally realized I need to wear heels when standing next to women in important photos/on tv, because they will be wearing heels. Two that I’m wearing 4″ heels with a stacked toe here and am still a foot shorter than Amanda.

Goofing around on the kxan set, just because we can.

Cisco and the rest of the crew for the show were wonderful to work with and really made it a delight to be on the show. We were encouraged to pose on the news set and have our photos taken just for fun. I texted Adam this photo and he sent to people telling them I had a new job, and they believed him, ha!!

Back at home after all the fun, requisite selfie as I loved what I wore. It was Faye approved.

As I was asked a few times, outfit details: Kate Spade New York dress from Nordstrom (I love that they tailor on site, which they did for me super fast), Gucci shoes from Neiman Marcus, Manic Trout necklace, earrings and ring (not shown) from www.manictrout.com.

You can watch the video below (or if its not working correctly, watch it on the Studio512 site.)

TxSC

texas style council manic trout tribeza magazine august 2013

I am so excited for the Texas Style Council Conference this weekend! The last one was almost a year and a half ago and it still feels to fresh in my mind as I remember so clearly what a wonderful time I had. I met amazing women, became closer to those I already knew, learned a great deal and was hugely inspired…now THAT is an awesome way to spend three days. It kicks off in a few short hours and I am beside myself in excitement! This year is especially fun as I will be speaking on Saturday (Are you attending? Make sure to take my jewelry class!) and I will also have a tiny table set up during the Prom Saturday night. Really though, I’m just so thrilled to be able to talk shop with 300 fabulous women for three whole days. As if all of that was not enough, Tribeza asked me last month to get all dressed up for a night out and bring my favorite stylish guy along with me for a photo shoot to promote TxSC. How fun is that? If you can’t make it, you can follow along with all the fun this weekend with #txsc13 on instagram!

5 reasons I should have blogged last week

You may have guessed from my post last Monday that I would be absent from the blog for a day or two, but somehow I managed to be gone for the rest of the week…oops, my bad. I was bummed about this, I really was. Bummed enough that I am both sharing my remorse and what I forget to tell you all in one tidy post of the 5 reasons I should have blogged last week.

1. I was so excited to share that Manic Trout is featured in the July issues of both InStyle Magazine and People Style Watch and they hit newstands last week. (!!)

2. I wanted to talk about my desire for planting an herb garden. Good news on that though, I heard that in Texas, you can plant herbs at any time, so I may bring that up again this week instead.

3. I was having a clothing crisis. I will perhaps visit this topic at some point this week as well…we’ll call it the PTSD version of the crisis.

4. Blogging makes me happy. I talk a lot, enjoying sharing my thoughts and writing. So duh.

5. I finally made a new video and wanted to share it with you. Well, that I can still do right now…

That felt oddly cathartic getting all of that out. Ok…the week can start now. Happy Monday!

Sum it up: A week in review

WORKING ON:  Getting ready for another sneakpeeq sale on Oct 3rd.  Its a great motivator as I do them every 6-8 weeks and I have a very short lead time before each sale.  Which means I work like a maniac to prep and that mania usually sticks with me for a week or so after.

THINKING ABOUT:  How much I miss the colors of Autumn in the Hudson Valley.  *Sigh* the only thing I miss about the North East.

ANTICIPATING:  Um yeah, still dreading moving….still have not found a place…still have not begun packing.

LISTENING TO:  The same mix of 30 songs in iTunes over and over again.  I think I listing to .00002% of the music I have in there.

EATING: Trying to figure out how to prepare oatmeal and not be hungry 5 minutes after I’m finished.  Adding, chopped almonds, honey and a chopped apple seemed to work…although as you can see above, I should have used a bigger bowl.

THANKFUL FOR: Adam coming back home on Monday after a loooooong summer apart.

PLANNING FOR:  Tomorrow’s market was cancelled due to the crazy forecast, so I have been given the gift of time…many ideas on how to use it…all of them involve the studio.

READING:  My Life in France by Julia Child, with Alex Prud’Homme.  I’m really enjoying it, if you’re a fan of hers I highly recommend it.

WATCHING: Last night I watched the season premier of Grey’s Anatomy, which is extra special this season as the wardrobe stylist bought 4 critters from Manic Trout this summer for the show!!  I however think they had started filming when she did, so I doubt they will appear for awhile.

Sum it up…the week in review

Manic Trout Austin American-Standard
In the Austin American-Standard on Thursday, September 20th 2012

WORKING ON:  Cleaning out the studio and jewelry for the upcoming season.  There seems to be a pre-packing, get rid of stuff I haven’t used in a year, type thing going on.

THINKING ABOUT:  How badly I want to redesign manictrout.com (for no reason other than I’m tired of looking at it).  I however do not have the time, so I have been tweaking it here and there instead.

ANTICIPATING:  DREADING: Moving.  Only 5 weeks to go. Did I mention we haven’t seriously looked for a new home yet.

LISTENING TO:  I have become oddly drawn to Lucinda Williams since moving to Texas.  I’ve decided to just go with it.

EATING: I added local honey to my nightly snack of a Fuji apple with natural chunky peanut butter.  Its amazing and I’ve convinced myself that I’m doing it to help my allergies, so thats pretty cool.

THANKFUL FOR: All of the awesome press I received this week!  Both the Austin American-Statesman and Influential Magazine included Manic Trout (and me!) in their pages, yay!

PLANNING FOR:  The Holiday season…I should just leave this sentence here until January.

READING:  Straight Up and Dirty by Stephanie Klein for pleasure and Different – Escaping the Competitive Herd by Youngme Moon for work.

WATCHING: Don’t laugh, but I started watching Ally McBeal on Netflix.  I was in college when it aired and never saw it. I may not last more than a season but its ok for background noise while I work at night.
